​Extortion and ransomware: monetizing your “hack”
Ransomware exploded into a billion-dollar industry in 2016. Extortion and ransomware have become commonplace terms in board discussions, audit committees and risk committee discussions. Over the course of this presentation, Abhay will discuss the evolving black market, economic motivation for cyber-attacks and the growth of ransomware and extortion attempts. He will address typical approaches taken to conduct these attacks, and potential measures that organizations can take to reduce their exposure to such compromises.

Abhay Raman, EY's Partner, Cyber Risk Leader - Canada 
Abhay is a partner and Canadian leader of EY’s Cyber Risk practice, where he advises some of the world’s largest corporations establishing enterprise-wide information security programs. He has lived and advised clients in the Americas, Spain, China, Korea and Australia on information technology and security matters. Abhay is also responsible for evangelizing brand new security services to help secure Big Data, IoT, Cloud and mobile infrastructures. He has also served in interim executive roles and most recently served as the interim CIO for a GTA-area hospital. Abhay has a Master’s degree in Engineering and has research and industry publications to his credit in the areas of Security, Identity and Access Management, NFC Security, Biomimetics and social media.of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.
