Essakane Gold Project, Burkina Faso
Acquired in February 2009, the Essakane Gold Project is located in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The open‐pit mine currently under construction is slated for commercial production August 2010 and is expected to add 315,000 ounces of gold annually at below industry‐average cash costs to IAMGOLD’s profile. With reserves of 3.4 million ounces, employment of 1600 locals, and exploration potential, Essakane will play an integral role to the growth of IAMGOLD.
